Fighting Laziness

We have all been on the band wagon, slid off the wagon, stood in the wagon, yelled at the wagon, scolded the wagon, kicked the wagon, and just plain jumped the hell off the wagon and then threw it in the river.

NO BIG DEAL!.  Go get yourself another wagon!

This morning was tough for me.  I am assuming it was because I was up way too late catching up on my twitter feed.  For those of you that have twitter, feel free to follow me, @sabrinavtv I always follow back.

Anyhow, back to the topic at hand.  LAZY AF.

To put it nicely for all you classy people out there.

I was NOT feeling it today.  My alarm went off at 6am as usual.  Well, 6am turned into 6:30am… which after zoning out on the toilet for 2o minutes and then getting dressed with hair and teeth …it was after 7am.  As I made my bed, I contemplated getting back into it.  No one would know.  I am so sore anyway.  But then I  thought for a moment…my focus…my goal.

I turned off my brain and grabbed my weights, timer, jump rope and headed to my drive way.  I started out slow, still contemplating retreating to my room.  But as I forced myself to jump and jump and jump with my bright green jump rope my heart started to pump and my eyes widened and before I knew it, I was ON!  I wound up having an amazing sweat fest in my driveway and had my son join me for 15 minutes.  This is the key my friends.  We never realize the HUGE impacts that the ‘little’ things have on our day.  I could have skipped today, I could have crawled into bed.  Nothing catastrophic would have happened.  I wouldn’t have gained any significant amount of weight and wouldn’t have lost any significant amount of weight.  But this is where the trick comes in.

Every single day we have a choice to make good decisions and bad decisions and each decision snow balls one way or another.  You have the choice every single day to make more good or more bad.  Which ever way you tend to fall is the outcomes you will see after a month, year, or decade passes by.  This is what keeps me on track.  Once you comprehend the fact that it is not THE action THAT day… but rather the CONTINUED actions that wind up making the difference.

Let’s put it this way.

Let’s say you have a friend #1 that goes to the gym three times this month, let’s say they spend a crazy 1o hours at the gym each of those three days (just humor me for a second).  Now let’s say your friend #2 goes to the gym every single day for 30 days, but only for 1 hour each day.  Who do you think would have better results?  Friend #1 who went 3 days for 10 hours each or Friend #2 who went 30 days for 1 hour each? They both spent 30 hours at the gym, right?  I feel as if the answer is pretty obvious.  Friend #2, the one that went to the gym 30 days in a row for one hour a day would have FAR greater results than the person who only went three days.  Why is that?!  Consistency.  You see, when you break it down to a simple form like that, it is easy to see.

Reading a little, even if it’s just 10 pages a day will eventually end up being 3,650 pages.  Crazy, huh?  10 pages seems so insignificant, so insignificant that many of us skip it, thinking that it wouldn’t matter either way.  But if an average book is 200 pages,  you would end up reading 18 books a year.  How many books did you read last year?  Did you know the average American reads 1 book a year?

With small little actions every day we can completely alter our world.

Let’s talk about working out, let’s say you started out small and just committed to taking a 15 minute walk in the morning and at night. In 15 minutes an average person can walk 1 mile, so you would be walking 2 miles a day.  Not a lot…right, so little that you may think to yourself, ‘What is 15 minutes going to do?’  Well over a year you would have walked 730 miles.  Every mile burns on average 100 calories, so over a year you would burn 7,300 calories. Probably more than you realized, just by taking 30 minutes a day to walk in the morning and again at night.

Imagine if you took that same concept and applied it to learning an instrument, or getting straight A’s in school, or following your passion.  Just doing a little bit each day and watching the results multiple right before your eyes.  Time will pass either way, time does not stop.  You can either grasp the concept and move with it…or you can look back at this moment and say ‘woulda, coulda, shoulda’.

We need more good habits being incorporated into our lives.  More fruits and veggies, more working out, more reading, more positive interaction, more adventure, more working on the things that give us light and laughter.  And each day you work towards entering more of those wonderful things into your life, the more you will see a change in your thoughts, your body and your world.

Now back to my story.  Working out this morning.  My arm was not twisted.  No one would have known or even cared if I worked out or not.  But I would have known.  See the more you allow your body to ‘get away’ with doing the minimum, the harder it is to get back on track.  I know this from trial and error and years of experience.  And YOU DO TOO!!!

Life is short…BUT you have time right now.  Life is about creating a story, your story, however you want.  Read and apply.  Educate your mind and work towards small changes that done over a long period of time will have lasting impacts on you and your world/family.

Create health.  Create optimism.  Create a body you love.  You have the power to force your body to do anything you want it to do.  Start now.
