5th Annual Take A Step For Your Heros 5K Run/Walk
Today I come to you with fitness goodness!!! You know how much I LOVE me some cardio! It is super-duper important to get a walk in every single day! Over the weekend, Don and I happened to be walking around the Pittsburgh Mills Mall, out of the corner of my eye I spotted a table set up with a man happily chit chatting, the cloth over the table said something about a 5K walk/run. Now some of you may be surprised to hear that with all the cardio activity I do, I have never run any sort of marathon, however, it IS TRUE!! With that being said, Don and I have made it a goal to run one by the end of the year. Like I always say, it is all about the baby steps! We approached the booth, had a chance to speak with Richard, and we are making plans to go! We would love to see you there! The name of this run is Take a Step For Your Heros 5K.
SATURDAY, JUNE 14TH 2014
The charity that is being funded by this walk/run is amazing, it is for the National EMS Memorial Service. I hold this one close to my heart because I have a friend, Mikey Davis who has served as a Emergency Medical Technician and has worked as a Firefighter and Paramedic with the Eureka Fire Protection District in Missouri. I realize the sacrifice this industry holds, and the patience and love one must have for life to continue in a field like this.
There is one thing I would like to mention here, if any of you are like me, these marathon type ordeals can be intimidating…but they are for ANYONE!! Literally! It does not matter your weight, height, age, culture, body type, whether you put pepperoni or sausage on your pizza. It doesn’t matter if you have ever run a mile before. It doesn’t matter your time, or if you walk, or if you are the last person to cross the finish line. The point of these marathons is to build awareness of certain charities, to build a community, to meet and greet new people who are part of a bigger picture. I can not stress enough how important it is to support things like this, and how important it is to get those legs, arms and the entire body moving! Ps. I would also like to mention that the thought of a ‘5K’ can be a bit intimidating…. but 5K is only 3.1 miles. Piece of cake! (For those of you that are marathon connoisseurs, last years winner was Brent Lopick.)
Well, that is all I have for you, I hope to see you there! Bring your friends and family! I posted some extra information below regarding the race. Any questions can be sent to info@takeastep5k.com.
